Is Satan A Better Christian Than You?


In church this morning, we were reading John 6. You know, the passage about Jesus being the bread of life? Of course you know, because all good Christians know that Jesus is the bread of life! But as my wonderful pastor (Jonathan Haefs) continued speaking, he challenged me on what Jesus really means by being the "bread of life." 

 John 6:35 "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."

So. Why does Jesus compare himself to bread? Couldn't be have gotten a bigger, greater comparison? What about if he said "I am the eternal happiness." Doesn't that sound better? What's so great about bread? (I mean, Jesus did know that some people were gluten free right??)


Jesus parallels himself with bread to show that faith looks a lot like feasting. What does that mean, exactly? It means that our faith should be in abundant amounts. 

Feasting is not just eating. We shouldn't view Jesus as a meal that we eat 3 times a day. Jesus is our bread, our portion, our prize that we are GIVEN freely. So. What does it mean to feast on Jesus? 

It means we should view Jesus as our one soul satisfaction.

It means we should treasure Jesus more than we treasure any worldly thing.

We should be so in love with Jesus that nothing can shake us.

We should wake up every morning thanking God for blessing us with another day to live and spread his Word.

We should turn to Jesus every day, every hour, every minute, every second.

We have to become so obsessed with learning about Jesus that we don't have time to obsesses over our own desires. If we're not hungry for Christ, we're probably too full of ourselves.

We must learn to go to God, arms high and head low, just to speak to Him. We have become so self-centered that we go to God only for something from Him, and not for Him alone.

We need to be wide eyed and mystified, staring at the beauty of our King, every time we open His love letter to us. 

We should crave to learn more about Jesus, always.

We should love him- with all our heart.

We should feast on Him.


The Bible goes on to say, 

John 6:36 "But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe."

Let's remember who Jesus is talking to in this passage. Just earlier in the same chapter, he turned 5 loaves of bread into 5 thousand pieces of bread. Bread. And yet still, all the people did not turn to him! Were those people not looking?? Did Jesus forget to give the back row bread? No. Everyone was provided with bread, from the bread of life Himself.

What Jesus is saying is that he IS the bread of life. 

Only he can truly satisfy us. 

Only he can fill us. 

So it sounds easy enough to believe in him as the bread of life and be a christian, right?

How come so often people identify as Christian, but don't live it out? How come Jesus says in Matthew 7, "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me."

Wait, what??? I thought if we knew the Lord we got into Heaven??? What happened to John 3:16? "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Is God saying that some people that know the name of the Lord will be turned away? 

Yes.

Simply knowing that the Lord of the universe exists is not having a living and real relationship with Him. Don't believe me? Even the devil and his demons believe in Him.

James 2:19 "You believe that there is one God- good! Even the demons believe that."

Even Satan knows that God exists. Satan knows that God is mighty and powerful. Satan believes in God. 

So, what does this mean for us? This means that we cannot simply know God exists. If you solely believe that God exists, you have the same amount of faith that the devil has. You have to live by his word. You have to read his word, and let it transform you. You have to let Jesus become your everything. You have to allow Jesus to become your sole source of bread. Satan knows the truth too, but he does not feast on Jesus.

Learn to let yourself feast upon Jesus, and who He is.

The good news is this- if you have real, authentic, and genuine faith, you are Jesus' child forever. 

John 6:39 "And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day."

You cannot lose your faith.

Faith in Jesus, real and serious faith in Jesus, is life altering. If you do lose your faith, it was never real in the first place.

He promises that He will not lose any of us, and that He will raise us up on the last day. 

Trust His promise.

Feast upon Him-

 He is waiting to fulfill you.

HOW TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO WORK OUT :


hi friends! i hope this week was a great one for you! let me know in the comments something positive that happened to you this week! i've been super into fitness lately, so this post will be a little bit different! if you're anything like me, motivation can be hard to find when it comes to exercising. working out, getting to the gym, and making time to exercise is tough! especially when you're already busy. i mean, i'm a college student! i don't have time to work out! right? wrong. what i've come to find is that EVERYONE is busy. you just have to make time to treat your body well! so, how do you do that? i've written down my top 5 few tips + tricks on how to get your motivation back!



1.get up early!
something i struggle with is not IF i'm going to workout, but WHEN. i mean, i'm a junior in college taking 18 hours this semester. i have homework, a social life, time to relax, and time to SLEEP. (some mornings when i wake up, my first thought is "i can't wait to go to bed tonight!" ha! is that sad? can anyone relate?) what i've found is the easiest way to find time is to make time. and the easiest way to make time is to get up earlier than usual. if you decide to "make time" after school or work, you never know what might come up in the day and interfere with you from getting to the gym! i get up at 6 am every morning. that's right. six o clock. and my first class isn't until 9:15. at first, it was tough. it was really tough. waking up before it was light out, and getting my tired booty out of the bed. it would be one thing if i was waking up that early to go to NYC or something, but i'm voluntarily waking up that early to go to the gym. some people might view that as crazy, but i've gotten to the point where i love it! i wake up every morning and have time to myself. i get to put my headphones in, exercise my body, and be done with working out by 8 am! 

a few tricks to getting up early :
  • pick out your outfit from head to toe the night before. every night before i go to bed, i pick out everything (including my socks) that i will wear to the gym, so i can head out the door as quickly as i can!
  • DONT SNOOZE. although it may seem like 10 more minutes will make a huge difference, it won't. 
  • once your alarm goes off, try your hardest to sit up. i've found that whenever i roll over in my bed, half asleep, to turn my alarm off, i end up falling back asleep. my body has gotten in the habit of shooting up whenever my alarm goes off.
  • as stupid as it sounds, look through your phone. i usually grab my phone and check my texts, email, facebook, etc. it gets my mind going and helps me become more awake by reading and engaging my brain.

2. go to bed early!
this seems obvious given #1, but it makes SUCH A DIFFERENCE. going to bed early makes getting up early the morning so. much. easier. i go to bed every day (not weekends) by 11 at the latest. honestly, it's usually around 9:30-10. yes, i know i'm in college. yes, i know i should be having the time of my life. HOWEVER, getting up early only works if you get a good nights sleep the night before!!! nothing too exciting is usually happening on week days, so going to bed early isn't an issue. on the weekends i take a break from getting up early and don't set my alarm, but my body wakes me up around 8 nearly every time. "but mallory! you're a college student! don't you ever have to stay up late writing a paper??" i'm a journalism major and an english minor, so i write at least one paper per week. but instead of staying up all night writing it, i write it after my workout in the morning! for example, i get up at 6 and usually stay at the gym until 7:45-8. after that, i have until 9:15 for my first class. so if i know i have an assignment to finish, i make sure i get to the gym on time and even cut my workout short sometimes! there's a saying "the only bad workout is the one you didn't do" so i remind myself of this when i have to run back to my room to do something! on those mornings, i usually don't put together a cute outfit and put on make up like i do usually, so it gives me a solid hour and a half in the morning to work on any unfinished assignments.



3. turn it into a lifestyle
once you actually decide to START- it isn't that hard to follow through. i played sports my whole life all throughout high school, so coming to college was the first time i had to decide to take care of my body. i mean, would you believe me if i said before college i had never gone to the gym before? because i hadn't. i had never been to a gym just to workout, because i was always having workouts and practice for sports all year round! i had no idea how to workout, but i decided to start. and now i've gotten to the point where i hate not working out. i workout 5-6 days a week, every single week. i've developed a HUGE passion for fitness. if you would have asked me 3 years ago if i would want to go to the gym, it would be a resounding NO. but now i wake up every day and it's the first thing i do! once you start eating healthy, exercising (a lot or a little) you just FEEL better. the feeling gets addictive, and it's the best addiction you can ask for.



4. make it fun
i'm not going to sit here and say that i smile through every workout. to be honest, most mornings i'm in such a daze i don't say a single word the entire time i'm in the gym. what i'm saying is to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. for example, my favorite thing to work is my booty and legs. i LOVE squatting, leg press, leg extension, etc. i look forward to leg day. everybody has a specific body part they enjoy working more than others. find what you love and let it consume you in the gym! this is not to say to ignore every other body part. i hate cardio. but you know what i want? abs. so i do cardio 3 times a week. to get maximized results, you will work every part of your body. but it doesn't have to be miserable. for example, i hate lunges! so on leg day, i hardly ever do lunges. maybe once every 2 weeks. i do the exercises that i enjoy, and that make me sweat. my favorite exercises are the ones where i can really feel the burn. and it's okay to mess around in the gym! when i first started going, i had no idea how to work any of the machines. don't be afraid of looking like an idiot! every single person in the gym - whether it be you, or a body builder, had to start somewhere. try exercises that you find enjoyable. and do them. a lot. 


here's me goofing off after grant told me to try a pull-up! i hate pull-ups, so i didn't do one! ha! 




5. find inspiration + love your own body
one of my favorite things to do for inspiration is to take progress pictures! try and taking some. not for anybody else to see, just to help you be reminded of how far you have come. i love the quote "exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate." your body can do INCREDIBLE things. you would be amazed if you just gave it a try! results might not come immediately, but they will come. a few ways to stay inspired:
  • make a pinterest board of workouts and inspiration pictures! (i have one! you can follow me here!
  • TAKE PROGRESS PICTURES. day to day it might not look like much is changing, but pictures will help show you how far you've come! 
  • learn to love your own body. wanting to improve your body is healthy, but craving another's body is self-destructive. everybody's body is different!
  • eat well! it helps you feel better, so you will be more motivated to actually wake up in the morning!
  • but cute workout clothes! it doesn't have to be lulu, target has a great selection!
  • write motivational quotes all over your space! i have them hung on my wall, on my phone, on my mirror, etc
